701 days

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

701 days — that’s how long it’s been since my last haircut.  One month shy of two years.  Yesterday, it all came out.

I wish I had a more interesting story.  No, the kids didn’t make me pull it out and no I didn’t get gum in my hair.  It didn’t get singed making smores or caught in the doors of an elevator.

I just got tired of it.  Sick and tired of it.

Mackenzie was just over 6 months old 701 days ago.  She wasn’t sure what happened to me yesterday.  She doesn’t understand why Daddy doesn’t need bows (ponytails) like her anymore.  There were folks at church that didn’t recognize me this morning.  And this afternoon, when I ran up to work to make some DNS changes, there were people who didn’t recognize me there either.

I’ve told people at work that I wasn’t getting it cut again until I had a job interview lined up somewhere else.  I wonder what they will think tomorrow. (No, I don’t have a job interview.)

I can shower and get ready to go in half the amount of time now.  I love being low-maintenance again.  I’m almost 30 — it’s time to grow up.

Before and After

Before and After

Jonathan 2.0

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Last Saturday, I got my birthday present.  It’s not my birthday yet, I have 2 more weeks, but we will be out of town then so the timing was better now.  For my forthcoming birthday, I FINALLY GOT AN IPHONE!!!  I’ve been wanting one forever, but I was stuck in Verizon’s ugly contract so I had to wait.

I love it!  In less than a week, this device has totally changed my life.  It really has made me Jonathan 2.0.  I was already Web 2.0 before since I facebook since I wiki, blog, facebook, YouTube, RSS, etc; but now I can do it all from anywhere.

Here are a few examples of my new Life 2.0:

Running 2.0 – Before, I would run with my iPod Shuffle for music and a stop watch for timing.  After my run, I would jump over to mapmyrun.com and draw my path on a google map to find my distance.  No more!  Now, I start the music and hit start on mapmyrun’s app.  When I finish, I hit stop.  It automatically save’s my run, distance, pace, etc. on the website and feeds it to my blog and Facebook.

Facebook 2.0 – Ok, that was stupid because Facebook is already 2.0 but facebooking while you are in an elevator is really 2.0ish.

Reading Material 2.0 – Who needs magazines anymore in the bathroom when you have an iPhone?

Church 2.0 – I just about fell out of my chair this morning when the pastor started to read from the bible, but instead of a bible, he used his NLT Bible App on his iPhone.  You know I had that app before the service was over!

I may add more later.

It’s ironic that this is the second birthday that I’ve gotten a $200 cell phone.  When I turned 18, I used my birthday cash to buy a cell phone.  I don’t remember the model, but it was the first Nokia that had Caller ID, digital capabilities, etc.  All of that stuff is standard now.  I wonder what kind of $200 phone I’ll be able to get when I turn 40?
