Discover Macon

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Last year, we decided to do the Discover Macon photo challenge.  Basically you go around to certain Macon landmarks and take a photo of your group.  Last year there were 16 photos.  We somehow (with my mother on hospice and all) managed to be the first team to turn them in and we won the fastest team award, which was $50.00 and tickets to Lake Tobosofkee.  Conveniently, a tornado swooped down a few weeks later and blew the lake away before we could use the tickets.

Here are our photos from last year.  After the event, they used our pictures to promote Macon in magazines, newspapers and television commercials.  We have been like the poster children for Macon.

This year, I heard that they were doing the challenge again and that it was only 12 photos.  We were out of town for the first weekend and then had a rainy week after that so I was pretty sure that we weren’t going to be the fastest team this year.  Anyhow, it is a neat little scavenger hunt and we’ve discovered places in Macon that we haven’t been.

Here are this year’s photos.  I got a call yesterday personally inviting us to the awards ceremony coming up this Sunday evening.  They even asked how I wanted my check made out.  We either won the $1000 grand prize or the more likely $250 fastest team prize (we have to defend our title).  Come out to the ceremony and see how we did or stay tuned to this blog.  The ceremony is 6:30 on the Wesleyan College front lawn, followed by a FREE (my favorite 4-letter word) concert by the Macon Symphony Orchestra.
